and police say he has access to multiple weapons and assault rifles. cnn's kyung lah is joining us from los angeles where the police chief is calling it extremely worry some and scare ree. what's the latest kyung? >> reporter: certainly scary for anyone connected to the police department in southern california. this is where today's shooting spree began but all of this, wolf, began earlier this week. the murder spree began on sunday with the double killing of a newly engaged couple, monica quan and keith lawrence, quan, the daughter of a retired lapd captain, the officer who represented christopher dorner in front of the police board that eventually fired him. dorner refers to quan's murder in his man guess stow. he writes, i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. self-preservation is no longer important to me. i do not fear death as i died long ago on january 2nd of '09, a date a few month after dorner was fired as a police officer. the lapd fanned out, launching 40 protection details throughout southern california. >> lapd is the specific target but a

it now to trace gallagher joining us from los angeles with the latest. >> hi, kim. to expound on where you are going here. we know that two officers were in fact wounded in this and one has been airlifted out of the mountains of big bear, presumably down to san bernadino, riverside county to get medical attention. to your point, yes, they know that this, in fact, is christopher corner. he is in a cabin and firing shots for the better part of 15 to 20 minutes. there was confusion at first because they thought he made his stand in the woods. but this afternoon, he went in to the home of an elderly couple who owned a cabin in big bear and he tied them up. and then he stole their white pickupickup truck. in the chain of events the fish and game authorities came in contact with the white pickup truck and shoot-out ensued. then more forces were brought in and christopher tonor made a way to local cabin and started to shoot out authorities. now we're told he wounded two deputities. they called in tactical units and called in all hands on deck because they know how crafty he has been in five d

for an arrest warrant now gives u.s. marshals the power to extradite dorner. it cites probable cause he is heading to mexico to avoid prosecution. dorner allegedly attempted to steal a boat in san diego and told the boat captain he was taking the vessel to mexico. authorities found dorner's wallet and id cards near the san ysidro point of entry. >>> kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is in the newsroom with global reaction to the north korean nuclear test. >> reporter: this move is causing ripple facts in the international community even china north korea's staunchest ally voicing opposition. this test took place last night just before 9 p.m. eastern time. the u.s. geological survey said the blast had a magnitude of 4.9. this morning we are learning north korea says these tests were only a first response to so-called u.s. threats. leaders are calling it self- defense and the nation warns of second and third measures if the u.s. maintains hostilities. the test has heightened tension in the region especially in japan and south korea. u.s. ambassador to japan
